This major is based in the border regions, serves Yunnan, and is oriented towards the whole country. It cultivates core teachers with educational sentiment and good teaching ethics, who identify with the profession of geography teachers. They possess a systematic and solid foundation in theoretical knowledge, basic knowledge, and basic skills of the discipline of geography. They master the new concepts of basic education reform and educational teaching skills, and are capable of undertaking middle school geography teaching and conducting teaching research. It is currently a national first-class characteristic major, a national first-class professional construction site, and the first batch of Class A professional construction sites in Yunnan Province. In 2023, it passed the second-level accreditation of normal professional programs by the Ministry of Education.
